Careers

Choosing which direction to take after leaving school is a big decision. We’re here to support our pupils and make sure they know about all the options open to them.

Our curriculum focuses on careers, and we provide our pupils with meaningful career-related opportunities and activities throughout their time with us.

Our Careers Lead is Mark Scragg. If you have any questions about careers, higher education, work experience, or if you would like more information about our careers programme, please contact via 01572 720357 or email mark.scragg@theshires.org.uk .

We are supported by Beckie Jones who is our independent Regional Futures Advisor for Stretton Shires School.  Beckie is not based at the school permanently but conducts regular visits and can be contacted by phone (Mobile: 07876833082) and email Beckie.Jones@ofgl.co.uk .  Beckie’s role is to provide impartial careers and preparation for adulthood advice and guidance to all pupils in the school and this will be tailored to both their needs and the pathway which they are on and their aspirations. The impartial element of her role is vital, as her main goal is to ensure the pupils wants and needs are communicated and heard from their point of view. She will also support the school to ensure the careers service is the best it can be for our students including the sourcing of work experience and other experience-based opportunities tailored to individual students’ aspirations

Achieving Success

At Stretton Shires School we aim to develop children and young people’s understanding, awareness and skills linked to careers, employability, and economic understanding.  Our aim is for all pupils to have meaningful experiences linked to their aspirations, interests, and developmental stage.  We aim for pupils to have careers and employability learning opportunities and experiences as part of their core topics or as part of whole school collapse curriculum days, off-site educational visits, and work experience.

We provide pupils with the knowledge, information, and skills to make informed choices about suitable “next steps” such as key life skills linked to employment, work experience, routes to voluntary or paid employment, qualifications, and accreditation to support further study.  Stretton Shires School enables pupils to receive accurate information, advice and guidance about all options and opportunities open to them and the progression routes to which those options lead.

We aim to ensure the following are explored appropriately in line with each pupils’ developmental stage, aspirations, and interests:

At Stretton Shires School we ensure the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks are at the forefront of our Careers and Employability offer;

  1. We have a stable careers programme
  2. We ensure we learn from career and labour market information
  3. We are committed to addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. We ensure there is a clear linking of curriculum learning to careers
  5. We provide high quality encounters with employers and employees
  6. We provide high quality experience of workplaces
  7. We have links to ensure encounters with further and higher education
  8. We provide in-school & independent personal guidance
